Spiesel, PHD, MD Syd Spiesel, the founder of our practice, received his PhD in cellular immunology from Yale University in 1972 and his MD, also from Yale, in 1975. After his pediatric internship and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital (and some time studying developmental and behavioral pediatrics and the application of computer technology to medicine), he began teaching in Yale’s Department of Pediatrics – initially, full time, and, later (after opening his private pediatric practice), part-time. He continues to teach now as a Clinical Professor in Yale’s School of Medicine (with similar appointments in Quinnipiac’s medical school and Yale School of Nursing). His scientific and medical interests include infectious disease, vaccine immunology, and medical information technology and his pediatric interests range from child development to adolescent care. He has been a national medical print and radio journalist, a computer software developer, and a vaccine developer. He is excessively proud of his wife, his two children, their spouses, and his four grandchildren.
